Understanding the social impacts of high-rise residential living is critical in the face of rapid urbanization and the increasing prevalence of high-rise residential living. This course examines the unique challenges posed by high-rise buildings, with a specific focus on their post-occupancy phase. Drawing from recent research, participants will explore how these environments influence community dynamics, social interactions, and occupants’ overall well-being. The course will introduce key methodologies, such as the DEMATEL method, to analyze and prioritize social variables, offering insights into effective mitigation strategies.

Participants will gain practical knowledge on enhancing social cohesion and fostering a sense of belonging within high-rise communities. Key topics include:

• Addressing anti-social behaviour through design and policy interventions.
• Enhancing social interaction spaces to foster community engagement.
• Understanding the role of urban design in mitigating social isolation.
